The router that comes with my ISP contract is garbo and I highly doubt it has bridge function. With my used 60euro worth fritzbox, I keep the customization options and reliability. It has been 1.5 years and it hasnt failed me a single time while the other constantly had issues with stuff connecting to it.
Router provided by my ISP is just garbage. The settings are so scrace, I might as well just connect my PC directly (if I could, cause cable is DOCSIS). Had to buy 10yo DOCSIS router that actually is usable.
If your router is fine in settings, maybe changing it won’t be necessary. As for ISP spying on you - probably possible but certainly is not likely.

Most of my storage is media - movies and series. Immich, Nextcloud and personal files take little less than 300GB. I do backups weekly to NAS storage, monthly to storage SSD in my PC and to an external HDD. I am looking into way to somehow be able to backup to a rpi3 that I have installed at my father’s place. This might cover my 3-2-1 needs, just need to figure out that 1.
I had purchased first 12TB drive for 4 bay NAS last summer. These are fuckton expensive so couldnt get all 4. I finally saved up and bought 2nd 12TB drive to get to RAID 1 for redundancy. Not even month passed, WD reports no more drives. Shop where I got one reports out of stock. FUCK!

Not exactly. This is just a requesting frontend that can be accessed with either Plex/Jellyfin account or a custom one. Seer then has a contact with Radarr and Sonarr to automate their searches of media. Radarr and Sonarr is what is connected to a downloading client (either torrenting client, usenet or seedbox).
One can skip Seer and just use Radarr and Sonarr as is.
Out of all services I run, my wife has as registered user on 3 of them, which are Immich, Nextcloud and Jellyfin. She basically uses only Immich cause it fucking rocks and she loves it!

I got into self-hosting after buying a TV and a car. I really didn’t want to connect TV to the internet, so I decided to use a N100 based miniPC. And I live in a place where car thefts are very common, so I been searching a tool to self-host GPS tracker so I don’t have to pay monthly fee to some Chinese company to know where my car is. That is how I got into self-hosting Traccar. And then Pandora’s box was open.
It’s out. Autoupdated off the market. No issues so far for me.
9 containers of which 1 is container manager with 8 containers inside (multi-containers counted as 1). And 9 that are installed off the NAS app store. 18 total.
4W rpi5 versus 7W n100 on idle is not a big of a difference. I admit that rpi5 would be around half as cheaper to run but even with really high electricity price, difference is minuscule. Your average wifi router would utilize around the same amount of energy as N100 minipc.
Not sure if this counts as SBC, but maybe you should try to find a used GMKtec G5. It is tiny and these usually have N97 and 12gb of DDR5. New one goes for 139 where I am at, so maybe it is fair to try to find used one for cheaper.
Alternatives: minis with N5059, N95, N100, N150 are all priced similarly.
As some selfhosting novice who uses NPM with auto renewal - I feel that I shouln’t be ocncerned.
I run Nextcloud of an NAS appstore. NAS is Asustor Drivestor 4 gen2 - Realtek RTD1619B CPU with 2GB non-expandable DDR4 ram. NAS runs couple of other services like Vaultwarden, Radarr, Sonarr, Uptime Kuma and maybe something else, I dont remember. NAS runs at around 10% CPU and 50% RAM at all times.
Nextcloud isntance is AIO and I have no choice in what type it is. There also are no other good file hosting services but Nextcloud on the app store.
Now the experience: It is slow. Slower than say Google Drive. Login page loads slow but not too slow. I would describe it as sluggish. Like if you run windows 98 file manager on a 5400rpm old drive and you just want to copy couple of files. I went to admin panel and disabled all junk that I will definitely wont run in future. That made it bit faster than before. It works but could be much snappier. Maybe in near future I will move to Opencloud or Owncloud or whatever other services that are similar experience to Nextcloud are.
In my defense, I barely use Nextcloud. It is a nice-to-have option to upload any files that I may find useful to save or/and access later. Therefore, I want to note that sluggishness of Nextcloud doesn’t bother me. But I wish it would be as snappy as Immich is.
We already have charge-only USB cables. Near future will be video-signal-only HDMI cables. What a world to live in.
As a newbie in selfhosting, Immich is what I use almost every day. And it is so good. A literal Google Photos but it’s my own. Snappy web app and android app. Has epic face recognition, contextual search and now even text recognition. All that on an efficient and not so powerful N100 cpu. I can totally see why community loves it.
Mine runs on some rockchip and 2gb ram h side drivestor gen2 Nas. Sluggish, but works with no troubles so far. Or is indeed not a hardware hungry I stance if you use it for you yourself and maybe a few family members
Almost a year of S12 mini as services/HTPC. Cant be happier!
My ISP changes IP somewhere around once a month. I own a domain on porkbun and they offer a simple docker compose script that updates my records to a current IP.
I believe other domain selling platforms also have similar scripts or solutions.
