You could also try Mint DE (Debian Edition) and get closer to the source (and ditch any of that Ubuntu crap).

This is brilliant: “automating yourself from complexity only means you add layers of somewhere else”. Need to tattoo this on my forearm!
Debian home server, macOS desktop, newer laptops run Arch and Fedora, and the two old MacBooks both run Mint DE. Oh, and OpenWrt on the router.
